21 DRESSES

For mourning a vast array of special clothes have developed over the centuries, not only for the dead, but also to be worn by the bereaved. This is my 21 gram dress made from spider tissue, which is a flexible translucent, Japanese paper derived from the bark of the Mulberry tree. It is mainly used in the art conservation world for repairing books and paintings. The paper comes in different weights. The lightest is 1.6gms per square metre and can be barely seen, the heaviest is 11gms per square metre. Using 4 metres of the 5gm weight and 1gm of red thread I have made a dress weighing 21 grams.
